“The decision to buy, though, that should be a no-brainer if you have reason to get a new house, says auctioneer and realtor Jim Slyman—he thinks buyers will reap the benefits of people listening to the national news and deciding Knoxville is in crisis. “There’s no question about it, right now is probably one of the best times in the past 30 years to be buying a home,” he says. “How many times in your life are you going to be able to buy a house that didn’t lose its value at a discount? “I’ll make this prediction,” says Slyman. “One year from now, things will be totally different. Prices will move up. Those who have not bought in this great market will be regretting it.””
A glut of $500K+ houses, more foreclosures, lower sales prices… ouch! But don’t equate Knoxville’s pain with the real estate ravages across the country.
